RUSHの凄み

もう発売からだいぶ時間の経ったSnakes&Arrowsですが、全く色褪せない。

発売から一年でライブアルバム発売は嬉しい限りです。
Vaportlailsの発売からコンスタントに（いやそれ以上、精力的に）音楽活動をしてくれるからこそのファンとして充実したRUSH生活が送れています。

このアルバムを聴き、YouTubeでS&A tourの海賊映像を見ると或る思いが湧いてきます。
音楽的求道者というスタンスは全く変らないのですが、何かこう今までと違った聴き心地を覚えずにはいられません。

海賊ライブ映像を見ると、今まで以上にシャープで洗練された感じを受ける。
すごいことです。RUSHのバイタリティは神がかっているとしか言いようがない。

Snakes&Arrowsの瞬き

それは、若いプロデューサーを採用したことにも起因しているのかもしれませんが（もちろん彼が若かったということは結果的なことに過ぎず、どちらかと言えばRUSHのファンであった彼がRUSHの醍醐味を引き出し、自分自身がそれを味わいたかったからに他ならないと思う）、これまでの「新たな音楽的収斂」という目的が「演奏表現を楽しむ」という非常に本源的なところに重きを置くという仕上がりであるということが大きな違いだと思う。

伊藤正則氏はしきりと「オーガニック」というキーワードを使ってこのアルバムの不思議を解釈しようとしていましたが（Alexなどはこのフレーズを気に入っていたようですし、当たらずとも遠からずなのでしょう。）、私はシンプルに音楽家、芸術家としての「Joy」がはちきれんばかりに詰まっているように感じます。


換言するとこれまではアルバムごとの楽曲的な編曲様式に重点があったように思うのですが、Snakes&Arrows　ではキャリアの中で培われた音楽性を楽曲の卵にどのように付加して如何にして楽奏的に孵化させるかという。

そしてこのアルバム、
RUSH音楽史の集大成というよりも「まったき新しきRUSH」がこのアルバムから始まったようにしか思えないのです。

もう３０年もの将来、私たちの方がRUSHに着いていけるのだろうかと、
そんな久大で至福な心配をさせてくれる作品だと聴くたびに実感します。
